Dog Harnesses for Large Dogs

Most harnesses sold as "large" are a medium with a longer strap. The hardware does not change, the stitching does not change, and the failure point is the same one it always was — a plastic buckle or a single-stitch ring holding back a hundred and fifty pounds of dog that has decided to go the other way.

DUO builds for big dogs specifically. The PRO line is cut and sewn by hand in Southern California in sizes M through XXL, with steel and zinc alloy hardware rated up to 2000 pounds, milspec webbing, ballistic nylon, and load-bearing joints bar-tacked with T70 thread. Every PRO harness has a lifting handle.

The patented cinch system contracts under leash tension — grabbing your dog's body when they try to escape or go reactive, and turning your dog around when they pull. It also prevents the harness from rotating around or pulling off your dog's body.

If you are here after a harness broke, or after your dog backed out of one that was fitted correctly, that is the failure this was designed around.

Sizing for large and giant breeds

What size do I need for a 150 lb dog?

A PRO in XXL. Measure the base of the neck and the chest behind the front legs and send us both numbers — we will give you one answer, not a range.

What is the difference between XL and XXL?

Chest circumference, primarily. Both are made to order. Send us your measurements rather than ordering by breed — two Great Danes can be two sizes apart.

My dog is deep-chested. Will it fit?

Yes. Our harnesses are designed for larger breed dogs, including deep-chested and barrel-chested builds. The chest and neck adjust independently, which is what most harnesses get wrong on these dogs.

Do you make anything for dogs over 200 lbs?

Email us. PRO is made to order, so custom builds are quoted individually.

Handle, warranty, and support

Do your harnesses have a handle?

Yes. Every PRO harness has a load-bearing handle over the shoulders, useful for control at the curb, helping an older dog into a vehicle, or holding position in a crowd.

What if it fails?

Lifetime warranty on materials and craftsmanship, with free repairs. We have been doing this for seven years and we answer our own email.
